Building a Master Batch Record for Dental Materials
A master batch record turns an approved process into an executable, reviewable instruction for one defined product and batch size.
A master batch record turns an approved process into an executable, reviewable instruction for one defined product and batch size.
State product, strength or variant, batch size, document revision, approved bill of materials and packaging configuration. Operators should not have to combine information from uncontrolled notes. The issued record must identify the exact version authorized for the batch.
Include internal material names or codes, required quantities, permitted adjustments and verification points. Record actual lot numbers and quantities used. Units and decimal conventions must be consistent to avoid transcription mistakes.
Give clear steps for preparation, addition order, mixing, temperature, time, vacuum or other relevant parameters. Identify which values are targets and which are acceptable ranges. If judgment is required, define who is authorized to make and record the decision.
Place sampling, appearance checks, mass balance, fill checks or other controls at the point where action is possible. Record results, equipment IDs and responsible persons. A separate test sheet should still be traceably linked to the batch.
Provide space for deviations, unusual observations, rework authorization and quantity reconciliation. Corrections should retain the original entry and identify who made the change. Do not hide process variation by rewriting the record after production.
Production and quality review should confirm completeness, calculations, material status, deviations, test results and packaging reconciliation. Release is a documented decision tied to the exact batch, not merely the end of manufacturing.
